AMERICANS WIN POLO MATCH AGAINST MEXICO The American polo team of Phipps, Smith, Iglehart and Perkins rides roughshod over the Gracidas brothers from Mexico during the International polo series at Meadowbrook, New York.
POLO GROUNDS CLOSES The Polo Grounds is about to give way to arnhousing development. The Mets play their last game there before moving to a new stadium. Except for a few football games in the fall crowds will no longer pour into the Polo Grounds. Casey Stengel, with his wife waves farewell to the Stadium.
COMEDY TEAM IN SOFTBALL TILT The cast of "Hellzapoppin," Broadway comedy hit, take on a Robert Ripley team in a softball game--and what a goofy event it is. The players are well-known, but their antics are new.
1963 WORLD SERIES OF BASEBALL The Los Angeles Dodgers (ex-Brooklyn bums) give the New York Yankees the bum's rush in the first two games of the World Series. In the first game, left hander, Sandy Koufax sets a Series mark as he strikes out 15 Yankees. With the New Yorkers' vaunted power throttled, the Dodgers go on to down the World Champions 5 to 2. The second day is almost a replay of the first. Again--it's fine Dodger pitching and they, not the Yankees, are again the power at the plate. Before it's over the Dodgers are on top, 4 to 1, and lead the Yankees two games to none as they head for the West Coast.
