GERMAN DISASTER: 43 TRAPPED IN FLOODED MINE The collapse of a reservoir on the lip of an iron mine at Broistedt, poured tons of water down the shaft to trap 129 men working below. 86 escaped and immediate rescue efforts were put into action to rescue three men who were known to be alive. It's a 'round the clock operation as workers drill through 250 feet of rock to the men. Air pressure in the mine is higher from the flood waters and it's a week-long effort to reach the climax of this drama of life and death.

LONDON DIGS OUT AFTER AIR RAIDS Five weeks of ruthless bomb attacks finds London hard hit. During a lull in air raids, streets are cleared and wrecked buildings searched for victims. Sailors on ships with their children prepare to sail to war. As the battleships depart Prime Minister Winston Churchill gives them the thumbs up.
AIR FORCE ONE SCARE IN NEW YORK CITY President Barack Obama apologizes for the scare caused in New York by one of the official Presidential jets flying low around the Statue of Liberty with a military fighter jet.
