THE NATIONAL WAR MEMORIAL IN OTTAWA The National War Memorial stands in Confederation Square in downtown Ottawa with the Parliament building behind it. The dates 1950-1952 are on one side and 1914-1918 are on the front with a sculpture of soldiers and calvary horses above it. Bronze statues symbolizing Peace and Freedom are on top of the arch.

PEACEFUL PROTEST AGAINST INTERNMENT IN NORTHERN IRELAND TURNS VIOLENT - 1984 Thousands of IRA supporters gather to mark the anniversary of the British introducing Internment (arresting and holding people without evidence or trial) in Northern Ireland. The peaceful rally turns violent when police and British troops begin firing plastic bullets into the crowd after Irish Northern Committee spokesman, Martin Galvin, who was banned from the United Kingdom appeared at the rally.
