A wide shot shows big audience giving the Nazi salute. CU of Goebbels, who claps demurely. Followed by the book burning of Krystallnacht.
BERLIN GREETS OLYMPIANS Before the start of the 1936 Olympics, Berliners greet the arriving American team with waves and salutes. Team members, including a blonde woman and a serious looking black woman, exit a bus. WS shows buses rolling near the Brandburg Gate. National flags fly from flagpoles. A round building sports Olympic decoration.
HITLER WATCHES OWENS SET RECORD Wonderfully crisp footage from Berlin in 1936 shows Jesse Owens before, during and after his gold medal winning sprint in the 100 meter dash. CUs of Owens in starting position and then smiling, breathing hard, after the race. Hitler looks on, not smiling. American fans wave little flags in stadium.
