COAST GUARD CONFISCATES RUM SHIP - 1930 The San Francisco Coast Guard captures the "Ray Roberts" attempting to smuggle in Canadian whiskeys and rums. The contraband alcohol is unloaded from the boat and placed on to trucks going to the customs house.

Shots include solemn faced visitors and soldiers walking and looking, scaffolding on a building that is getting a new roof, visitors walking over a bridge across the Golden Water Stream to the Gate of Supreme Harmony and the bridge's ornamentation.

THE GATE OF HEAVENLY PEACE Footage of as seen from Tiananmen Square includes a shot of a soldier in a crowd with the portrait of Mao Tse Tung hanging in the background. When the soldier realizes that he is being filmed, he turns and hides behind a man and woman who gaze into the camera. Nice CUs of Mao Tse Tung's colossal portrait are followed by shots of masses of people walking through the arches that lead to the Forbidden City. At the end of the clip the camera pulls back into the arch and the figures inside are silhouetted against the sky and the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall in the distance while the communist flag waves above the Monument to the People's Hall.

THE FORBIDDEN CITY DETAILS Nice footage inside the Forbidden City, this clip includes CUs of enormous, stylized lion statues and elaborate building decoration.
