SOVIET INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT The USSR's buildup of factories to support its military and political needs: A man explains to another how a device operates, a farmer sprays pesticide with a huge tractor device, men work in a steel mill, workers move huge metal pipes across a warehouse, and mechanics build engine parts for vehicles.
RUSSIAN SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES Various views of male and female students in the Soviet Union of the 1950s attending grammar school through college. Both wealthy and poor schools are presented. Students take notes as teachers lecture and a group of college kids enter a university building.
SOVIET CLASSROOM Russian boys attend a Communist school. All of the children wear dark military uniforms. One boy rises and marches to the front of the class, stands at attention, completes a math problem on a blackboard and returns to his chair as other boys watch from their seats.
FEMALE WORKERS ON SOVIET RUN FARM Female workers under the Soviet communist regime labor on a farm. The women pick crops in the afternoon sun and bundle grains and vegetables for shipment.
RUSSIAN WINTER Russians trudge through bitter cold and frozen, snow covered ground during a brutal winter in the Soviet Union. Snow blankets an array of empty landscapes and town scenes. Closeups of townsfolk reveal their intense plight and poverty.
RUSSIAN HYDROELECTRIC PLANT Interior and exterior views of a Soviet hydroelectric power plant, starting with a shot of a river dam. Water rushes through one of its openings as heavy machinery inside converts the force to electricity. Various pans of high voltage transmission lines end the scene.
RUSSIAN TEXTILE MILL Inside a Soviet-run textile mill, a worker checks the quality of cotton by running his hand through a raw batch. A wide pan across the machine floor followed by a close up of one machine shows cotton strands being processed into fabric.
RUSSIA PORT DOCK Cargo ships and fishing vessels are loaded and unloaded while docked at a Russian port. Ships travel down calm narrow stretches of water as others cruise quickly down wider expanses of river. The camera also passes by a small fleet of docked ships.
RUSSIAN SOLDIER AT INDUSTRIAL FACILITY A Soviet officer pulls up in his car to the entrance of an industrial facility. A soldier salutes the officer and directs the car to enter the complex.
