BERLIN OLYMPICS OPENING CEREMONIES One hundred thousand people attend the opening of the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Hitler is in attendance for the Opening Ceremony. The athletes march into the stadium with their countries' flags. The ceremonial flame is lit with the Olympic torch. Track and Field events begin the Games, including the javelin and different races.

1963 WORLD SERIES OF BASEBALL The Los Angeles Dodgers (ex-Brooklyn bums) give the New York Yankees the bum's rush in the first two games of the World Series. In the first game, left hander, Sandy Koufax sets a Series mark as he strikes out 15 Yankees. With the New Yorkers' vaunted power throttled, the Dodgers go on to down the World Champions 5 to 2. The second day is almost a replay of the first. Again--it's fine Dodger pitching and they, not the Yankees, are again the power at the plate. Before it's over the Dodgers are on top, 4 to 1, and lead the Yankees two games to none as they head for the West Coast.
POLO GROUNDS CLOSES The Polo Grounds is about to give way to arnhousing development. The Mets play their last game there before moving to a new stadium. Except for a few football games in the fall crowds will no longer pour into the Polo Grounds. Casey Stengel, with his wife waves farewell to the Stadium.
1933 NEGRO LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME In 1933 baseball's Negro League plays their first all-star game at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The all-stars pose for photos, fans fill up the stands and a batter runs to first.
