HOWARD HUGHES RECEIVES HOMECOMING WELCOME The Hughes Tool Company in Houston, Texas closes for the day in honor of its owner Howard Hughes homecoming. Hughes is greeted with enthusiasm over his record-breaking flight around the world but is slightly uncomfortable with the attention.
THE FORDS VISIT FDR AT WHITE HOUSE Henry and Edsel Ford are bombarded by the press as they arrive and later exit the White House to have lunch with President Roosevelt to discuss the national economic crisis.
CHICAGO TICKER TAPE PARADE FOR HOWARD HUGHES Howard Hughes and his four-man crew arrive n Chicago, Illinois where they are enthusiastically greeted by the media and fans. The city then throws the men a ticker-tape parade to celebrate their new round-the-world flight record of 3 days, 9 hours, 17 minutes.

AMELIA EARHART DISAPPEARS Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan are well into their round-the-world flight when they take off from Lae, New Guinea on 2 July 1937 with the intended destination of Howland Island. The aviators never reach their destination and disappear without a trace to become one of the greatest mysteries of all time. Aerial and ocean searches for the pair yield no results.
