ALL-STAR GAME OF 1964 The 35th All-Star baseball game gets under way at New York's Shea Stadium. The teams continually tie until the 9th inning when Johnny Callison hits a fast ball into the right field scoring three home runs and the game 7-4 for the National League.
1964 LE MANS GRAND PRIX & CARNIVAL More than 250,000 people gather to enjoy the annual Le Mans Grand Prix endurance race, and a carnival for those duller moments of the 24-hour race. Some also nap, shave and play golf to pass the time until Italian amateurs Jean Guichet and Nino Vaccarella cross the finish line first.
EAST & WEST COAST HORSE RACING The Suburban Handicap at New York's Aqueduct Racetrack sees Kelso beaten by Iron Peg in a very close race. At a Hollywood Park race across the country South Africa's Colorado King scores his first U.S. victory by six lengths.
