TIBBETS COMMENDED AFTER A-BOMB Col. Paul W. Tibbets, Jr. emerges from the cockpit of the Enola Gay after dropping the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and is awarded a medal in a ceremony on the tarmac. Tibbets receives congratulatory handshakes from several fellow officers.

LOADING A-BOMB ABOARD ENOLA GAY The bomb to be dropped on Hiroshima (nicknamed Little Boy) is wheeled out of a building, hoisted aboard a wheeled cradle using block and tackle, and transported to a bomb pit. The Enola Gay is backed over the pit and the bomb is raised on a platform into the bomb bay. 1
