TRACK & SWIM EVENTS - 1932 SUMMER OLYMPICS Winners of the 1932 Summer Olympics Games include the U.S. in men and women's 400 meter relay and Jean Shiley's high jump. Japan's Yasuji Miyazaki and Tatsugo Kawaishi win the 100 meter swim while U.S. Mickey Riley Galitzen takes first in diving and Helene Madison the women's 100 meter. The biggest surprise is Argentina's Juan Zabala who wins the marathon race in record time.

GIANT LANTERNS OF ISHIKI - 1932 The villagers of Ishiki, Japan raise giant lanterns thirty feet high to chase away demons that can ruin their crops as part of their celebration of the harvest time. The ritual is so unusual that elsewhere the Japanese call them the "fool lanterns of Ishiki."
