Bernard leave Washington D.C. to speak out against Jersey City Mayor Frank Hague and his attacks against critics and the C.I.O. labor union. A crowd of 30,000 greet the congressmen with a massive demonstration showing their support of Mayor Hague.
MAYOR TAKES ACTION AGAINST NYC TRUCK STRIKE Pan down from the skyscrapers of New York City to hundreds of parked trucks after 15,000 drivers go on strike. Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia declares a public emergency and turns out hundreds of old Sanitation Department vehicles at the City Hall to begin moving supplies.
THOUSANDS MARCH FOR HIGHER RELIEF PAYMENTS Thousands of unemployed workers, union groups and organizations for the unemployed march on New York City Hall demanding larger relief payments for the unemployed. A line of police stand ready to intervene if things get ugly.
