1934 WORLD SERIES The 1934 World Series starts with the Detroit Tigers' manager Mickey Cochrane shaking hands with the Saint Louis Cardinals' manager Frankie Frisch. The pitcher Dizzy Dean helped the Cardinals to win the series and angry Detroit fans throw trash onto the field.

PHIL RIZZUTTO QUITS WPIX TELEVISION After 39 years as a TV broadcaster for the New York Yankees and a member of the baseball hall of fame Phil “The Scooter” Rizzuto retires from WPIX television after being told he has to work rather than attend former teammate Mickey Mantle's funeral. Rizzuto was later persuaded to return to WPIX for one more season.
