"FLOWER DRUM SONG" IN GALA PREMIERES The motion picture version of the smash Broadway musical opens in New York City at the famed Music Hall to critical acclaim. There's also a benefit performance in San Francisco where some of the picture was made.
LINDA KAYE HENNING DANCES Linda Kaye Henning of TV's Petticoat Junction dances to a medley of show and movie tunes dating from the twenties to the sixties. The set is comprised of blowups of sheet music covers for many of the songs.
HAROLD ADAMSON & EDDIE CANTOR A chintzy replica of a hot air balloon floats past a globe, followed by sheet music for the song Around The World In 80 Days to introduce it's lyricist, Harold Adamson, seated at a piano. Adamson talks about the March of Dimes and introduces a montage of still photographs of Eddie Cantor which accompany a recording of Cantor talking about how he invented the March of Dimes. Following the Cantor montage, Adamson reveals that he was stricken with polio as a child.
COMPOSER NED WASHINGTON Following a shot of the sheet music for When You Wish Upon A Star and an abbreviated clip of Jiminy Cricket singing the song, lyricist Ned Washington talks about ASCAP and the March of Dimes.
JOHNNY MERCER SINGS Following a shot of a 78 rpm recording of Accentuate The Positive, spinning on a Victrola, lyricist Johnny Mercer sings the tune seated at a piano, takes a break to praise the March of Dimes, then finishes the song.
CARTOON SONG & COMBAT Cartoon with singing and fighting. Felix the Cat and a king sing, while two mice climb into suits of armor and have a fight with battle axes. Felix and the king jump in to a chest to hide.
