WELTERWEIGHT BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP Welterweight Champ Curtis Cokes retains his crown, beating Francois Pavilla of France, with whom Cokes fought to a draw in Paris, earlier this year. Cokes gains a T.K.O. over Pavilla in the tenth when the Frenchman's manager throws in the towel.
PATTERSON FIGHT 32-year old Floyd Patterson, formerly heavyweight champ, gains a draw on his long comeback trail. Jerry Quarry, L.A. boy, gives Floyd a rough time, with two knockdowns in the second round. Quarry goes down once in the seventh and the fight ends as a slugging match.
