MAHER ARAR IS CLEARED OF TERRORIST ALLEGATIONS BY CANADIAN GOVERNMENT - JANUARY 2007 Syrian born Canadian software engineer Maher Arar holds a press conference with family members and his attorney after the Canadian government announces its investigation has cleared Mr. Arar of possible terrorist connections to al-Qaeda. In 2002 U.S. and Canadian officials were responsible for having Mr. Arar deported to Syria where he claims he was tortured while being held in a detention center before being released and returned to Canada.

HMCS HAIDA RUSTING AWAY The canadian destroyer HMCS Haida now acts as a museum in her retirement at Ontario Place in Toronto. The ship is the most famous in ship in the Royal Canadian Navy having sunk 14 enemy ships during World War II. However rust and time are eating away at the ship and repairs are badly needed. In 2002 those repairs were finally done to the tune of $5 million.
