Britian refused to grant independence because the white government in Rhodesia was refusing to allow blacks to vote.
PRIME MINISTER WILSON ARRIVES IN RHODESIA - 1965 British Prime Minister Harold Wilson arrives in Rhodesia hoping to negotiate terms with Premier Ian Smith over the country's independence from British rule. Wilson refused to grant independence because Premier Smith and the white minority government resisted extending the vote to the majority black population.
