The death of the most famous yachting figure in history, the gallant Irishman who took thumping defeats gracefully, and who always came back for more in his forty-year quest for the "Ol' mug". The shamrock V, beaten for the America Cup by Harold Vanderbilt's enterprise, remains to posterity as the last boat to carry the green ensign of the immortal sportsman.
