ATTACK AT PEARL HARBOR On December 7, 1941, bombers take off from Japanese aircraft carriers at sea bound for Pearl Harbor; explosions take place; bombs are seen dropping towards earth; aerial views of Pearl Harbor airport and parked airplanes; explosions at airport, and in the water; missile released from submarine travels under water; massive explosions occur; US sailors man anti-aircraft guns and artillery; massive damage.
DESTROYERS FOR BASES The Destroyers for Bases Agreement, which provided the British Navy with 50 obsolete destroyers in exchange for land rights on British possessions. Uniformed British sailors march and board a ship; three American destroyers are seen rafted together; British ensign flags are raised on stern flag poles; first one destroyer, then a convoy, is seen at sea.
SOVIET MISSILES BEING FIRED The Soviet Kashin Class Frigate 561 and the Kotlin Class Destroyer are seen firing, respectively, Goa surface-to-air missiles and surface-to-surface missiles off their decks at sea. Footage includes loaded launchers on decks, missiles launched, flames following missiles and splashes in the sea as missiles hit targets.
LAUNCH CEREMONY FOR DE-1074 - 2 On May 3, 1969 at the Todd Shipyard in Los Angeles, the naval vessel DE-1074 is launched. It is named the USS Harold E. Holt after the Australian Prime Minister who went missing in 1967.
