DODGERS WIN WORLD SERIES The Dodgers take the Yankees in four straight games. In the third game Junior Gilliam is brought home by Tommy Davis for the only score of the game and Don Drysdale goes on to silence the mighty Yankee bats. In the final game Frank Howard homers to put the Dodgers ahead and Mickey Mantle comes back to tie it up with another home run. Then, Gilliam reaches third on an error and is brought home with a sacrifice fly to center by Willy Davis. Then Sandy Koufax, hero of the first game, makes matchsticks out of the mighty Yankee bats. The Dodger team celebrates in the locker room.
FIRST WORLD SERIES NO-HITTER In Yankee Stadium, baseball history is made in the 5th game of the World Series as Don Larsen retires 27 batters in succession--not a single Dodger reaches 1st base, as the Yankee hurler achieves the first World Series no-hitter, and the first World Series "perfect game."
1963 WORLD SERIES OF BASEBALL The Los Angeles Dodgers (ex-Brooklyn bums) give the New York Yankees the bum's rush in the first two games of the World Series. In the first game, left hander, Sandy Koufax sets a Series mark as he strikes out 15 Yankees. With the New Yorkers' vaunted power throttled, the Dodgers go on to down the World Champions 5 to 2. The second day is almost a replay of the first. Again--it's fine Dodger pitching and they, not the Yankees, are again the power at the plate. Before it's over the Dodgers are on top, 4 to 1, and lead the Yankees two games to none as they head for the West Coast.
