SPACE TECHNOLOGY AIDS DOCTORS Resulting from developments coming from the space program, new medical technology uses powerful new tools. A medical instrument, looking much like a handgun, is used to implant electrodes allowing heart rhythms to be monitored with a portable external device. The two patients on which the procedure is conducted (an adult male and a young boy) show no evidence of pain or discomfort during or after the installation of the monitor.
ACUPUNCTURE WITH AN ELECTRONIC ACUPUNCTURE DEVICE A patient receives an updated method of acupuncture. Needles placed into the back of her neck are attached by electrodes to a machine. Such machines are used to locate acupuncture points and sometimes to deliver a slight electrical current to stimulate nerve centers.
