GIANT LANTERNS OF ISHIKI - 1932 The villagers of Ishiki, Japan raise giant lanterns thirty feet high to chase away demons that can ruin their crops as part of their celebration of the harvest time. The ritual is so unusual that elsewhere the Japanese call them the "fool lanterns of Ishiki."
GOURDZILLA THE GIANT PUMPKIN Affectionately known as "Gourdzilla," a giant pumpkin on display in Chicago weighs in at 1,322 pounds. The giant pumpkin is on display at a food court in Chicago’s Water Tower Place shopping mall as an employee carves a face on Gourdzilla to prepare for his debut as a the great pumpkin of Halloween.
