ILLINOIS 100-MILE BICYCLE RACE Cyclists set off on a 100-mile bike race from Milwaukee to Chicago but not too many end up finishing. Mike Abb of Elgin, Illinois sticks it out to cross the finish line first.
FELLER'S PITCH RACES MOTORCYCLE Cleveland Indians pitching ace Bob Feller throws a baseball faster than a cop driving an eighty-five mile per hour motorcycle in a classic, kitschy test. Feller winds up and releases the ball after the motorcycle has passed him, but the ball is seen breaking paper in the pitching target before the cop reaches it.
HEEL-TO-TOE WALKING RACE Murray Rosenstein beats out a big field of opponents in the 26th annual revival of the 10 1/2-mile heel-and-toe derby from City Hall to Coney Island. Another man finishes first, but is disqualified for the wrong ankle technique.

QUALIFYING TRIALS FOR INDIANAPOLIS 500 Racing fans gather at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to watch the qualifying trials for the upcoming Indy 500 auto classic. Drivers like Jim Clark turn in times that are faster than last year's winners.
INDIANAPOLIS 500 - 1964 RACE & TRAGEDY Tragedy strikes the Indianapolis 500 with a fiery second-lap accident that involves seven cars, explosions and the deaths of Eddie Sachs and Dave MacDonald. Speed prevails however and A.J. Foyt wins the race.
MODESTO, CALIFORNIA TRACK MEET Olympic hopefuls set out to beat records at a Modesto, California track meet. Ralph Boston beats his own broad jump record and the Mile Run is won by Dyrol Burleson over Tom O'Hara by exactly 1 inch.
