THE FLEET'S LIT UP & SO IS MR. WOODRUFFE - 1957 NAVAL REVIEW
Montage of the May 20, 1937 Royal Navy Fleet Review, a British tradition in which the King reviews the massed Royal Navy. The entire fleet gathers together and attendees party into the night enjoying spectacular fireworks. And as the Naval broadcaster Thomas Woodruffe so famously put it, "The fleet's lit up." The Woodruffe Incident as it is often called was a source of much amusement after Mr. Woodruffe had one too many drinks, made his famous quote and was so incoherent during his broadcast that he was taken off air after a few minutes and suspended for a week.
