FINAL CONSTRUCTION ON N.J. PULASKI SKYWAY - 1932 Construction nears completion on the General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Skyway (aka Pulaski Skyway) in Newark, New Jersey. The bridge is the first "superhighway" in the nation and connects Jersey City and Newark to change the nearly two-hour commute to a four minute drive between the cities.
ALLISON AND VAN RYN WIN U.S. TENNIS TITLE Wilmer Allison and John Van Ryn win the U.S. Tennis title in Brookline, Massachusetts. Berkley Bell, of Austin, Tex., and Gregory Mangin, of Newark, NJ, are unable to handle the terrific drives of the net stars. The winners are awarded the Challenge Cup, symbolic of the doubles championship of the nation.
