CREW OF THE SPACE SHUTTLE CHALLENGER - 1986 Crew members of the ill-fated space shuttle Challenger smile and wave as they walk down a ramp then talk to ground crew members prior to boarding the shuttle. On January 28th, 1986 Challenger disintegrated just moments after its launch killing the entire crew.

Flying debris and white vapors paint elaborate patterns against the blue of the sky as the shuttle is torn apart by aerodynamic forces when an O-ring seal on its right solid rocket booster fails causing a flame leak.
