1,500 DIE IN MEXICO'S WORST STORM DISASTER A hurricane and floods batter central Mexico, causing havoc from the Pacific coast where numerous ships including an 1,800 ton freighter are swamped to far inland where whole villages are wiped out by earth slides. With the death toll near 1,500 and still mounting, the grim decision is made to abandon the search for bodies, as Mexico concentrates all its resources on relief for the stricken areas.
