LYNDON B. JOHNSON ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF THE PANAMA CANAL NEGOTIATIONS After 18 months of negotiations over who would have control of the Panama Canal President Lyndon B. Johnson lists the points that will be in a new treaty including U.S. abrogation of the 1903 treaty which gives it sovereign control over the canal and will effectively recognize Panama's sovereignty over the area of the canal.
