1963 WORLD SERIES OF BASEBALL The Los Angeles Dodgers (ex-Brooklyn bums) give the New York Yankees the bum's rush in the first two games of the World Series. In the first game, left hander, Sandy Koufax sets a Series mark as he strikes out 15 Yankees. With the New Yorkers' vaunted power throttled, the Dodgers go on to down the World Champions 5 to 2. The second day is almost a replay of the first. Again--it's fine Dodger pitching and they, not the Yankees, are again the power at the plate. Before it's over the Dodgers are on top, 4 to 1, and lead the Yankees two games to none as they head for the West Coast.
FELLER'S PITCH RACES MOTORCYCLE Cleveland Indians pitching ace Bob Feller throws a baseball faster than a cop driving an eighty-five mile per hour motorcycle in a classic, kitschy test. Feller winds up and releases the ball after the motorcycle has passed him, but the ball is seen breaking paper in the pitching target before the cop reaches it.
