CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONSHIP Over 5000 cheerleaders from across the United States gather for the National Cheerleading Championship, competing for various prizes and entertaining more than 15,000 spectators. The participants start out as young as 4 years of age and reach the championships through a series of elimination rounds.

MISS WORLD COMPETITION 1967 21-year-old "Miss Peru," Madeleine Hartog-Bell, wins the title "Miss World" in London. Her prizes included 7,000 and a year's contract. She is the daughter of a Peruvian rancher.
