LITTLE STEEL STRIKE OF 1937 Steel workers in Warren, Ohio take part in the "Little Steel" strike involving several small mills in the Midwest who refuse to sign a union contract. Passenger POVs from a train and an airplane bringing in food and supplies to protestors who refuse to leave the plants. Production continues in some instances but tensions are on the rise.
GOVERNOR CLOSES JOHNSTOWN STEEL MILL As the strike against Little Steel companies refusing to sign union contracts spreads to Johnstown, Pennsylvania Governor George H. Earle steps in with a heavy hand. He closes the Cambria plant of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and declares Martial Law despatching state police to oversee the situation.
FUNERAL FOR MEN KILLED IN STRIKE BATTLE Thousands gather in Chicago for the funeral rites of several men killed during a clash between steel mill strikers and police later dubbed the Memorial Day Massacre.
